Q4 2020
Initial consultation – introduction and overview of Alkerden Market Centre.
As you will be aware, over 13 years ago planning permission was granted by Dartford Borough Council for Eastern Quarry to be developed for a new mixed-use community including 6,250 homes, as well as new leisure, retail and commercial facilities.
The site is located in the wider area that makes up the Ebbsfleet Garden Village. The vision for the site has been based around three ‘villages’ referred to as Ashmere (to the west), Alkerden (in the centre of the site) and Castle Hill (located to the east). To date, around 1,000 new homes have been developed on the site in Castle Hill.

The proposals that are the subject of this consultation relate to the Alkerden Village in the centre of the site. The wider area also includes a new primary school, secondary school and sports hub was approved by Ebbsfleet Development Corporation in February 2021.
The subject of this consultation is around the Market Centre for Eastern Quarry which, once developed, will act as a focus of daily life for the development with new shops, leisure activities and open spaces. Through this consultation we want to understand the aspirations and needs of the local community to better inform the vision for this part of the site.
